Premium activewear is designed to work hard, but how it is washed and stored determines how long its softness, stretch, colour, and support will last.
Care does not need to be complicated. A few consistent choices can protect both the fabric and the structure built into your garments.
Choose a gentle washing cycle
Sweat, body oils, and product residue can settle into performance fibres. Wash activewear after a significant workout using cool water and a gentle cycle.
Turn garments inside out to protect the outer surface. Place structured tops in a mesh laundry bag when possible, and wash similar colours and fabrics together to reduce friction from heavier items.
Use less detergent
More detergent does not necessarily create a cleaner garment. Excess product can remain in the fibres, affect breathability, and leave the fabric feeling coated.
Use a modest amount of mild detergent and avoid fabric softener, which can interfere with moisture-wicking finishes and stretch performance.
Bleach and aggressive stain treatments may weaken fibres or change the garment’s colour.
Keep heat out of the routine
High heat is one of the quickest ways to reduce elasticity and damage technical fabric.
Air-dry activewear away from direct sunlight, ideally laid flat or supported so straps and underbands do not stretch beneath the garment’s weight.
Avoid tumble drying unless the care label specifically permits it. The additional drying time is a small exchange for longer-lasting shape and support.
Store pieces without tension
Once completely dry, fold activewear rather than leaving structured pieces hanging for long periods.
Keep cups, straps, and underbands in their natural shape. Avoid compressing them beneath heavy clothing.
An organised drawer also makes it easier to rotate pieces instead of repeatedly wearing and washing the same set.
Follow the individual garment
Different fabrics and constructions may require different care. Always check the label before washing, particularly for garments with bonded seams, internal support, or specialised finishes.
Thoughtful care is not about treating activewear as fragile. It is about respecting the engineering that allows softness, coverage, recovery, and support to work together.
